Cutting technology

Precision in
every pass.

Rubber-bonded thin slitting wheels are manufactured to close tolerances for precise cut-off work. Wet cutting can produce a clean, burr-free surface without changing the characteristics of the material being cut, helping reduce additional finishing and material loss.

As more manufacturers form parts by extrusion or cold drawing and then cut them to size, fast, accurate cut-off becomes essential. Hayes describes its technology as applied worldwide, from sprag-clutch bars, firearm trigger components, and tubular parts to tungsten and molybdenum contacts, hypodermic needles, fountain-pen nibs, and turbine blades.

  • Fast cutting
  • Accurate slotting
  • Precision cut-off
  • Reduced heat
  • Less material loss
  • Reduced finishing
  • Burr-free finish
  • Material unaltered

Wet or dryWet cutting is the primary application. Some grades are developed for dry cutting with the same precision and quality finish. Finished kerf depends on the wheel, material, and setup.

Wheel grades

Not one wheel for every cut.

From thin rubber-bonded slitting wheels to resin-bonded cut-off wheels, Hayes offers grades for different materials, cuts, and operating conditions.

GP-F

Fast cut

General-purpose resin-bonded aluminum oxide for ferrous materials, or silicon carbide for non-ferrous applications. Reinforced and non-reinforced options.

GP-L

Long life

Aluminum oxide or silicon carbide for harsh conditions where increased wheel life is needed. Reinforced and non-reinforced options.

GP-T

Thin-wall tubing

Non-reinforced grade designed for a fast, burr-free cut on thin-wall steel and steel-alloy tubing.

TR-3

Tool room

Toolmaker-designed cut-off wheels for tool-room applications where precise cutting is required.

Availability and grade selection depend on the application. Contact Hayes to discuss wheel dimensions, material, and target kerf.

Resin-bonded wheel catalog

Sizes for the setup.

The original catalog lists general-purpose and tool-room cut-off wheels by diameter, width, bore, and grade. Dimensions below are converted to millimetres.

These are the sizes published in the legacy catalog, converted from inches and rounded to 0.01 mm. Please confirm current availability and the correct wheel specification with Hayes before ordering.
